The United Kingdom has released an updated list of countries whose nationals are required to obtain a visa before entering or transiting through the country, with Nigeria remaining on the list.
The updated list, published on July 10, 2026, includes countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean whose citizens must secure the appropriate visa before travelling to the UK.
Among the African countries listed are Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Eswatini, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Malawi, Namibia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Tanzania, among others.
The updated requirements also apply to nationals of several countries in other regions, including Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Colombia, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, Vietnam, Yemen, and others specified by the UK government.
According to the UK authorities, nationals of the listed countries must obtain the appropriate visa before travelling to the United Kingdom, whether for tourism, business, study, work, transit, or any other purpose.
The updated guidance forms part of the UK’s immigration and border control policies aimed at regulating entry into the country.
