UNICEF and the Lagos State Government have flagged off the first round of the 2026 Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition (MNCAH+N) Week, calling for increased investment in child nutrition and maternal healthcare across the state.
Speaking at the launch in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area, the Chief of UNICEF’s Lagos Field Office, Celine Lafoucriere, said Lagos is home to about three million children under the age of five, stressing the need for urgent action to improve their nutrition, growth and overall wellbeing.
The week-long campaign will provide free healthcare services across all local government areas, including Vitamin A supplementation, deworming for children aged 12 to 59 months, malnutrition screening for children, and micronutrient supplements for pregnant women.
UNICEF is supporting the exercise by supplying Vitamin A and micronutrient supplements, while also driving community awareness campaigns and monitoring service delivery across the state.
Representing the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to bringing quality and accessible healthcare closer to residents.
Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Kehinde Oloyede, urged parents and caregivers to take advantage of the free services, while health experts highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, routine immunisation, proper nutrition and regular antenatal care in improving child and maternal health outcomes.
The campaign will run throughout the week at Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across Lagos State.
