A US federal appeals court has halted the execution of Christa Pike in Tennessee, about an hour before she was scheduled to be put to death.
The judges are reviewing whether claims of childhood sexual abuse and rape were fully considered when Pike was sentenced to death for a murder committed when she was 18.
The court’s decision temporarily pauses the execution while the legal challenge is considered.
