The United States military has launched a fresh round of airstrikes on Iran, marking the third consecutive night of military action as efforts to secure a ceasefire continue to falter.
In a statement posted on social media, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest strikes commenced at 4:45 p.m. local time (2045 GMT).
According to the command, the operation is aimed at imposing significant costs on Iranian military forces and reducing their capacity to launch attacks against civilians and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The renewed strikes come amid escalating tensions between the two countries and growing concerns over the security of one of the world’s most strategic maritime routes.
There was no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding the latest military action.
