Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved ₦25 billion for the construction of modern residential quarters for judges as part of efforts to strengthen the judiciary and improve the welfare of judicial officers in the state.
The project will comprise 40 standard duplexes equipped with recreational facilities to provide a conducive living and working environment for judges.
The approvals were announced by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, following the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the governor on Monday.
The council also approved ₦1.9 billion for the establishment of four Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the Orlu zone to improve access for candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). An initial ₦900 million has been released to begin work on pilot centres at Bishop Shanahan Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Omuma.
In addition, the council approved the establishment of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited, a public-private partnership initiative aimed at regulating outdoor advertising through smart, Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled digital billboards at no cost to the state government.
Governor Uzodimma also swore in Longers Anyanwu as the new Commissioner for Agriculture, while directing relevant authorities to intensify efforts to tackle erosion across the state.
The approvals underscore the administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary, expanding educational infrastructure, advancing digital innovation, and promoting sustainable development in Imo State.
