Venus Williams has been awarded a wildcard for the US Open women’s singles main draw, while sister Serena could still join her with one wildcard spot remaining.
The 46-year-old Venus, a two-time US Open champion, will make her 29th appearance at the tournament. She first reached the final on her New York debut in 1997.
Venus has struggled for form this season, losing all 10 of her singles matches and going 13 matches without a win. Her last singles victory came in Washington in July 2025.
Serena Williams, 44, returned to competitive tennis in June after stepping away from the sport and played singles at Wimbledon. She could potentially receive the remaining US Open singles wildcard.
The sisters recently reunited in doubles at the Cincinnati Open, where they suffered a three-set defeat.
The Williams sisters are also expected to be considered for a place in the US Open doubles draw, with the women’s doubles wildcards yet to be announced.
