Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title as the 2026 tournament gets underway in Morocco.
Nigeria, Africa’s most successful women’s national team, will be aiming to secure a record-extending 11th WAFCON title when they begin their Group C campaign against Malawi’s Scorchers at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday.
Madugu acknowledged that the defending champions will be the team every opponent wants to beat but insisted the Super Falcons are fully prepared for the challenge ahead.
“Now that we are champions, every other team will want to draw you down. It’s not going to be easy. We are quite aware of that and we are going to be fully ready,” Madugu told BBC Sport.
The experienced tactician said his players understand the expectations that come with being defending champions and are determined to give their best in pursuit of another continental crown.
