Ward I emerged champions of the maiden edition of the Aruwe Under-15 Football Competition after defeating Ward B 1-0 in the grand finale held at the Old Works Yard Football Pitch on Olu Aina Street, Mushin Local Government Area.
The victory capped a thrilling 15-day tournament that showcased the talent, determination and sportsmanship of young footballers from the 10 political wards in Mushin.
Organised by the Mushin Local Government, the competition was designed to promote youth development through sports while encouraging teamwork, discipline and healthy competition among participants.
Presenting the trophy to the winners, the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Olatunbosun Haruna Aruwe, congratulated the champions and commended all participating teams for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
He urged the young footballers to view the competition as more than a sporting event, describing it as a platform for character building, healthy living and the pursuit of their dreams through hard work and dedication.
The final attracted dignitaries, parents, coaches, community leaders and football enthusiasts, who applauded the initiative and described it as an avenue for discovering and nurturing grassroots football talent within the council area.
The council chairman also disclosed plans to collaborate with Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to expand the competition and provide greater opportunities for young footballers in future editions.
At the prize presentation, Ward A finished third and received bronze medals alongside a cash prize of ₦200,000, while runners-up Ward B went home with silver medals and ₦300,000. Champions Ward I were presented with the tournament trophy and the grand prize of ₦500,000.
The event also featured a novelty match between the political and executive teams, aimed at fostering stronger collaboration and promoting the continued development of Mushin Local Government.
