LAGOS, Nigeria — Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to remain united and steadfast in the face of the country’s growing security challenges, urging citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism and criminality.
In a statement addressing recent security incidents across parts of the country, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the concerns of citizens but emphasized that Nigeria’s resilience and collective spirit remain stronger than the forces seeking to destabilize the nation.
The governor stressed that terrorism and violence do not discriminate based on political affiliation, ethnicity, or religion, calling on Nigerians to set aside divisive rhetoric and rally behind efforts to restore peace and security.
“Every life lost is a tragedy, and every community threatened by violence deserves our solidarity, support, and protection,” he said, while extending prayers and support to the victims of recent attacks, including the teachers and students reportedly abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and the capabilities of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to overcome the current challenges. He noted that the ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture, improve intelligence gathering, and dismantle criminal networks require patience, determination, and collective support.
The governor also urged citizens to play an active role in safeguarding their communities through vigilance, cooperation with law enforcement agencies, and intelligence sharing, stressing that government alone cannot win the battle against insecurity.
Highlighting Nigeria’s history of overcoming adversity, Sanwo-Olu said the country has repeatedly emerged stronger from economic, political, and social challenges, expressing optimism that the current security threats would also be defeated.
“As Nigerians, our response must be defined by courage instead of fear, unity instead of division, and hope instead of despair,” he stated.
He concluded by reaffirming his belief in Nigeria’s future, insisting that the nation’s best days remain ahead despite the challenges confronting it today.
