The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared Uganda free of Ebola following 42 consecutive days without a new confirmed case, marking the end of the country’s latest outbreak.
The milestone came after Uganda’s last confirmed patient, an imported case, was discharged from care on July 16, 2026, with no evidence of further transmission linked to the case.
The WHO and Africa CDC commended Uganda’s response, highlighting strengthened surveillance, contact tracing, case detection, infection prevention and control, community engagement, and monitoring at points of entry.
The development comes as neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo continues to battle a worsening Ebola outbreak, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and cross-border cooperation.
