The Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, has confirmed cases of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis, popularly known as Apollo, amid concerns over a possible spread of the eye infection in the town.

Health authorities are monitoring the situation and are expected to intensify preventive measures to limit further transmission.

Apollo is a highly contagious eye infection that can spread rapidly through close contact with infected individuals or contaminated hands and surfaces.

Residents are advised to maintain good personal hygiene, avoid touching or rubbing their eyes, wash their hands regularly and avoid sharing personal items such as towels, handkerchiefs and cosmetics.

Anyone experiencing symptoms such as red or swollen eyes, excessive tearing, eye discharge or discomfort is encouraged to seek prompt medical attention and avoid close contact with others to reduce the risk of transmission.
