Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, following a government reshuffle carried out last month.
The decision, announced in a presidential decree on Monday, comes as Ukraine intensifies efforts to secure additional Patriot air defence missile systems from Washington to counter continued Russian attacks.
In a Facebook post, Stefanishyna said her departure was at her own request and was “dictated by personal circumstances.” She described serving as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States as “the greatest honour” of her life.
She noted that during her tenure, Ukraine strengthened the supply of American military assistance and maintained support despite shifting political dynamics in Washington.
Stefanishyna, a former deputy prime minister and justice minister, was appointed ambassador in July 2025. The position remains critical as Ukraine continues to rely heavily on US military aid and intelligence support in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
Although Ukrainian media reports say she is being investigated by the country’s anti-corruption agency over allegations of misconduct, no formal charges have been filed against her.
President Zelensky has not yet named a replacement for the ambassador.
