Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has been confirmed as the new head coach of the France national team.
Zidane succeeds Didier Deschamps, whose 14-year tenure—the longest in France’s history—came to an end after Les Bleus were eliminated by Spain in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 54-year-old, who captained France to their first FIFA World Cup title in 1998, has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid for a second time in 2021.
Widely regarded as one of France’s greatest-ever footballers, Zidane is expected to sign a contract that will see him lead the national team through the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
