Alexander Zverev has booked a quarter-final clash with Novak Djokovic at the China Open after defeating home favourite Shang Juncheng 6-0, 6-3 in Beijing.
The German top seed needed just 55 minutes to complete the victory, hitting nine aces against the 21-year-old Chinese wildcard.
Zverev, currently ranked world number two, is also targeting the top spot in men’s tennis, with Jannik Sinner currently holding the position. Sinner is absent from the China Open and has also confirmed he will miss next week’s Shanghai Masters.
Elsewhere, third seed Daniil Medvedev advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-3, while Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev also progressed to the last eight.
