Euro 2024: UEFA considering squad announcement delay amid England and Scotland fixture congestion

The Euro 2024 squads are due by midnight on Friday, June 7. However, England’s tournament preparations come to an end that day at Wembley against Iceland, and Scotland plays Finland at the same time. The squad number is currently 23, but it may be increased to 26.

Concerns have been expressed by a couple of nations that there may not be enough time to evaluate any possible injuries before player names must be sent to UEFA at midnight on Friday, June 7, as the final round of friendly internationals ends in just two hours.

Since final squads must be registered seven days prior to the tournament’s start, which sees hosts Germany play Scotland on June 14, it seems doubtful that UEFA will extend the deadline.

As long as there is medical documentation proving an ailment keeps a player from playing, players may be substituted in squads at any point up until the tournament’s opening game, according to current UEFA regulations.
