The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has refuted claims that it abducted or coerced the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, into resigning amid widespread rumours of his resignation.
A senior EFCC official, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that a petition was submitted against Ojulari but denied any forced resignation or interrogation.
On Saturday, social media was awash with unverified reports alleging that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and DSS DG Adeola Ajayi pressured Ojulari to resign. But the EFCC official described the claims as false.
“Those are fake news. He was not abducted,” the official said. “Protesters submitted a petition on Thursday, which they’re entitled to do. We only assured them it would be reviewed. There was no abduction or coercion. People should avoid spreading baseless rumours.”
