Ooni, Alaafin clash over Businessman’s chieftaincy title

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has chosen to remain silent amid tension with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, over a chieftaincy title conferred on Ibadan businessman, Dotun Sanusi.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, said the monarch has instructed him not to respond to the Alaafin’s 48-hour ultimatum demanding a reversal of the title.

Olafare wrote: “We cannot dignify the undignifyable with an official response… Let’s focus on narratives that unite us rather than the ones capable of dividing us.”

The clash highlights growing tensions among top traditional rulers over overlapping traditional jurisdictions.
