President Tinubu Orders Immediate Ban on Raw Shea Nut export to boost local industry

President Bola Tinubu has imposed a six-month ban on the export of raw shea nut, effective immediately, in a bid to strengthen local processing and enhance Nigeria’s position in the global shea market.

Announcing the directive at a multi-stakeholder meeting in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that the move is not anti-trade but pro-value addition, aimed at transforming Nigeria into a major supplier of refined shea products.

Expected to generate up to $300 million annually, the policy is intended to secure raw materials for local processors, increase rural income, and create jobs. The Ministry of Finance and other agencies have been tasked with swift enforcement of the ban.
