NDLEA seizes 589.536kg drugs in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a total of 589.536 kilograms of various illicit drugs over the past two months.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at the command’s headquarters on Numan Road, Commander Aliyu Abubakar attributed the success to a commitment to transparency, accountability, and building public trust in the nationwide fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

“Since assuming leadership two months ago, the period has been marked by intense operations, strategic partnerships, and notable achievements,” Abubakar stated. “Our efforts have been shaped by the vision of our Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), and are guided by a three-pronged strategy: supply reduction, demand reduction, and advocacy.”

During this period, the command arrested 107 suspects across Adamawa State, including several female suspects.

Abubakar provided a breakdown of the drugs recovered:

Cannabis Sativa: 186.443 kg

Tramadol: 334.612 kg

Exol-5: 64.197 kg

Pentazocine Injections: 4.155 kg

Methamphetamine: 86 grams

Codeine Tablets: 6 grams

Promethazine Injections: 36 grams (9 ampoules)

Rohypnol: 1 gram

These seizures amount to a total of 589.536 kilograms of assorted narcotics.

In addition, the agency seized six properties in Mubi and Yola, suspected to have been acquired with proceeds from drug trafficking or used for drug storage and distribution. These assets are currently under interim forfeiture. Four vehicles linked to the operations are also in NDLEA custody, awaiting similar legal action.

Regarding prosecution efforts, Abubakar revealed that 15 convictions have been secured so far, while 50 cases are ongoing at the Federal High Court in Yola.

He issued a strong warning to those involved in the drug trade: “Anyone still investing in this illegal business should reconsider now — the law will catch up with them soon enough.”
