The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected cultists in connection with the killing of three individuals during a violent clash in the Lekki-Ajah area on Sunday.
Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the incident occurred during an inter-cult clash at a security duty post on an unoccupied open land along Wole Olateju Street, Lekki Phase 1.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, reportedly led a joint team of officers to the scene and launched an immediate crackdown.
Hundeyin disclosed that the newly formed Anti-Cultism Team, along with other tactical units under the Elemoro Area Command, were swiftly deployed, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects during extensive raids on criminal hideouts.
Items recovered from the suspects include an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a military camouflage cap, two cutlasses, wraps of Indian hemp, charms, and three hemp grinders.
He added that the command has intensified security measures across Lekki and its environs to protect lives and properties while a discreet investigation is ongoing.
