Lunar Eclipse to be visible in Nigeria, several other countries

Nigeria, along with numerous countries around the world, is set to witness a lunar eclipse on Sunday, September 7.

The celestial event is expected to last approximately 83 minutes, beginning around 8:00 PM Nigerian Standard Time.

According to scientists, the eclipse will be visible across much of Africa, with some regions able to observe the entire phenomenon.

Countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Togo, Niger, Chad, and São Tomé and Príncipe are expected to experience the eclipse. However, viewers in some westernmost locations may miss the early penumbral or partial stages, as the Moon will rise near or during the total eclipse phase.

Experts confirm that lunar eclipses are completely safe to view without any protective equipment.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in such a way that the Earth is positioned directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the Moon’s surface.
