The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved grievances affecting non-academic university staff.
In a joint letter dated September 12, 2025, both unions decried the “unjust” disbursement of earned allowances, non-payment of outstanding entitlements, and failure to address other key labour issues.
The letter, signed by SSANU President, Muhammed Ibrahim, and NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, was addressed to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, reminding him of a prior communication dated June 18, 2025, from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of both unions.
They acknowledged that the June letter led to a meeting on July 4, 2025, between the minister and union representatives to resolve the issues — but expressed disappointment that no concrete action has followed.
The unions warned that if the government fails to act within seven days, they will embark on a nationwide strike to press home their demands.
