President Tinubu approves two-year tenure extension for Surveyor-General

President Bola Tinubu has granted a two-year extension of tenure to the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.

The extension, which will commence on January 5, 2026, is intended to support the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s geospatial data infrastructure and national land administration systems. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

This development follows the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency, placing national surveying and geospatial intelligence functions under direct executive oversight.

With the extension, Adebomehin will remain in office until January 2028.

Onanuga noted that President Tinubu expects Adebomehin to drive further reforms over the next two years, particularly in areas such as national land management, coordination of highway and adjoining land infrastructure, erosion control, land reclamation, and other critical national priorities.

Adebomehin was originally appointed as Surveyor-General by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with his tenure beginning on January 5, 2022.
