NEMA provided the update in a statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday.
According to the agency, its Lagos Operations Office coordinated a multi-agency response to distress calls, deploying rescue personnel and extrication equipment to the site in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency services.
“Upon arrival, emergency teams discovered several occupants trapped beneath the debris.
After several hours of intensive rescue operations, 20 persons were pulled out alive, with the injured promptly evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment. Sadly, two fatalities were confirmed,” the statement read.
NEMA added that all occupants of the building have now been accounted for, and the search and rescue operation has been officially concluded.
