US prison authorities are set to release Sean “Diddy” Combs on May 8, 2028, according to an online inmate registry that reflected his sentence and time already served.
The 55-year-old music mogul was sentenced earlier this month to 50 months in prison and fined $500,000 for prostitution-related crimes. Prosecutors had sought an 11-year term, but District Judge Arun Subramanian imposed a shorter sentence after considering mitigating factors.
Combs, who has been in custody at a Brooklyn detention facility, was acquitted in July of the most serious charges — sex trafficking and racketeering — but was convicted on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.
In delivering his ruling, Judge Subramanian said he was legally bound to impose a punishment that reflected the “seriousness of the offenses,” which had “irreparably harmed two women.”
Although the sentence was below the recommended 70 to 87 months proposed by probation officers, the judge said he hoped Combs would use his time in prison as an opportunity for reform.
“You are going to get through this,” Subramanian told the rapper. “Make the most of your second chance.”
Before the sentence was pronounced, a tearful Combs addressed the court, apologizing to his family and victims, calling his past actions “disgusting, shameful, and sick.”
Combs’ defense team has appealed both the conviction and the sentence, which could affect the projected release date listed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
