Wike, Ikpeazu, Others Attend PDP BoT Meeting at FCT Minister’s Residence

The internal crisis troubling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Sunday as a faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, convened a strategic meeting in Abuja.

The meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) was held at Wike’s official residence in the FCT, drawing high-profile attendance amid the ongoing leadership tussle within the main opposition party.

Prominent Party Leaders in Attendance

Those present included:

  • Nyesom Wike
  • Former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu
  • Former Deputy Speaker, Uche Nwuche
  • PDP Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed
  • National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu
  • BoT members from across the federation and the FCT

BoT Chairman Calls for Unity, Discipline

In his opening remarks, the BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, urged members to put sentiments aside and work with collective resolve.

He disclosed that the BoT had made notable progress in setting up caretaker committees across states where congresses were yet to be conducted — an effort aimed at stabilising the party structure nationwide.

Ohuabunwa also noted that the party had sanctioned individuals whose actions threatened internal peace, stressing that the measures were taken to protect the PDP from internal sabotage and restore confidence among members.

“Recent actions taken in the party reflect our unyielding resolve to uphold the rule of law and defend the PDP constitution,” he said.
“Our duty is clear — to consolidate ongoing reforms, strengthen internal cohesion, and ensure the PDP emerges stronger and united.”

He added that the BoT must remain the moral compass of the party and ensure that the PDP operates within the laws of Nigeria, its own constitution, and INEC regulations.

Leadership Battle Continues

The PDP remains split into two factions, each claiming legitimacy:

  • The Wike-backed faction, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, supported by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
  • Another faction led by former Minister Kabiru Turaki.

Despite the deepening standoff, no court has yet ruled on which faction constitutes the legitimate leadership of the PDP, leaving the party’s future direction uncertain.
