Nigeria Police Force to Resume Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit Policy

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the resumption of enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, effective 2nd January 2026, following a review of recent security trends and emerging criminal activities. This decision comes despite the matter still being before the courts, as the judiciary has not restrained the NPF from enforcing the law.

The temporary suspension of enforcement was intended to allow motorists sufficient time to regularize their documents and complete registration without undue pressure. However, intelligence reports indicate a rise in crimes facilitated by vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offenses.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, emphasized that the renewed enforcement will be conducted professionally, respecting the rights of citizens, and in full compliance with existing laws. The NPF reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, the rule of law, and collaboration with stakeholders to secure communities nationwide.

Motorists who need to obtain a Tinted Glass Permit are urged to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles are compliant before the enforcement resumes.

This proactive measure highlights the NPF’s focus on reducing crime and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
