Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked controversy after posting a scathing message about filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was found stabbed to death alongside his wife, Michele Reiner, at their Los Angeles home on Sunday.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described Reiner as “a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star,” and controversially suggested—without evidence—that the couple’s deaths were linked to what he called Reiner’s “incurable affliction” with “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Trump accused the late director of having an obsessive hostility toward him and claimed this had driven others “crazy,” before ending the post with a brief condolence.
The remarks have drawn sharp criticism online for politicising a violent tragedy and attacking a deceased public figure.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that Nick Reiner, the couple’s son, has been arrested in connection with the killings. According to records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, he is being held on $4 million bail. Investigators have not publicly detailed a motive, and the case remains under active investigation.
Rob Reiner was a celebrated director, producer, and actor, best known for classics such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. He was also a vocal political commentator in recent years.
Authorities have urged the public to allow the investigation and judicial process to proceed, while friends, colleagues, and fans continue to mourn the loss of the filmmaker and his wife.
