President Tinubu reconstitutes NERC Board

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.

The development was announced on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the commission. Oseni, who joined NERC as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed office as chairman on December 1, 2025. He will serve until the completion of his 10-year tenure, in line with the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr. Yusuf Ali has been named Vice Chairman of the commission. Appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, Ali also assumed his new position on December 1, 2025, and will serve for the remainder of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye and Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, who are all serving second terms as commissioners. Shatti and Akpeneye were initially appointed in January 2017, while Bello was appointed in December 2020.

Dr. Chidi Ike, first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, continues on the board for his first term. Additionally, Dr. Fouad Animashaun was appointed as a commissioner, with his tenure commencing in December 2025. Animashaun is an energy economist and former Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged the newly reconstituted board to strengthen and sustain ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
