The police community in Ebonyi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola.
Popoola, who was in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID), reportedly collapsed during a management meeting at the Ebonyi State Police Command Headquarters in Abakaliki at about 11 a.m.
According to a police source who spoke with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the senior officer suddenly developed breathing difficulties and began gasping for air during the meeting. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the ACP took ill during the meeting and was promptly taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1), Abakaliki.
