Power Outage: Pipeline Repairs Near Completion as Adelabu’s 48-Hour Deadline Ends Thursday

Electricity supply across Nigeria remains constrained following a temporary drop in power generation, but authorities say full restoration is imminent as repairs on a damaged gas pipeline approach completion.

This assurance was contained in a late Wednesday night update by the Nigeria National Grid on X, which confirmed that repair works being carried out by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company (NGPTC) are nearly finished.

“Repair works by NGPTC are nearing completion, and the affected pipeline is expected to be restored soon,” the update stated.
“This restoration will enable gas-fired power plants to resume normal operations, leading to improved electricity supply across the country.”

The update comes as the 24-hour mark of the 48-hour restoration timeline earlier announced by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, elapsed on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, Adelabu assured Nigerians that electricity supply would be restored within 24 to 48 hours, explaining that urgent efforts were underway to stabilise the national grid following a shortfall in power generation.

“Efforts are already underway to stabilise the grid and return supply to normal levels nationwide,” the minister said.

His assurance followed a statement by the National Independent System Operator (NISO), which disclosed that electricity generation dropped nationwide after a pipeline explosion disrupted gas supply to several thermal power plants.

NISO noted that it is closely monitoring the ongoing repair works being undertaken by NGPTC, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

DisCo Load Allocation (as of 8:59 a.m., December 24, 2025)
