Bride, Bridesmaid, Eight Others Abducted in Sokoto

A bride-to-be, her bridesmaid, and eight other residents have been abducted by suspected bandits in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, when armed men invaded the community and kidnapped the bride, who was preparing for her wedding scheduled later the same day. Of the ten abducted victims, nine are women while one is a man. One resident was also injured during the attack and is receiving medical treatment.

A community member who spoke on condition of anonymity described the incident as heartbreaking.

“Her wedding was supposed to hold this morning. Instead, she and her bridesmaids were taken away,”
the resident said.

Villagers expressed frustration over what they described as the late response of security operatives, claiming officers arrived nearly an hour after the attackers had fled.

“We are calling on the government to take its responsibility seriously and protect the lives and property of citizens,”
the resident added.

Police Confirm Incident

Spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the attack, stating that preliminary information had been obtained while further details were still being gathered.

Series of Abductions Across Nigeria

The Sokoto incident is the latest in a wave of mass abductions sweeping across the country.

Earlier on Sunday, gunmen attacked a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, kidnapping a pastor—popularly known as Orlando—his wife, and several worshippers.

According to residents, the gunmen stormed the church during service, forcing worshippers to flee as gunshots rang out across the community.
