APC launches bid to reclaim Osun after Adeleke’s exit from PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified efforts to regain control of Osun State following the defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party.

Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, made the call on Friday while addressing party stakeholders at a meeting held at the APC secretariat in Osogbo, ahead of the party’s governorship primary election.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebojele Akhere Patrick, Okpebholo urged party leaders, aspirants, and delegates to unite in a renewed push to reclaim the state in the 2026 governorship election.

He described the moment as critical for the party, stressing the need for collective action. “It is time to take back what belongs to us. This gathering reflects our shared resolve to strengthen internal democracy, reclaim Osun State for the progressive family, and restore purposeful leadership,” he said.

Okpebholo assured stakeholders that the primary election would be conducted with transparency and fairness, adopting an affirmation and consensus approach. He added that all 166 accredited delegates would undergo proper screening to guarantee credibility.

“No delegate will participate without due accreditation. Every stakeholder must fully understand the process to ensure fairness and accountability,” he stated.

He further called on party members to work closely with the election committee and officials, emphasizing unity as the party’s greatest strength ahead of the 2026 polls.

“The real task before us is the governorship election. We must stand together as one united family, because unity will determine our success,” Okpebholo said, stressing the importance of loyalty to the party structure.

Earlier, Ondo State Governor and Deputy Chairman of the Election Committee, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, underscored the need for strict adherence to party supremacy.

Stakeholders at the meeting echoed the call for unity, reaffirming their commitment to reclaim Osun State from the opposition and return the state to progressive governance in 2026.
