Five Persons, including four Women have died from an explosion suspected to be from illegally refined petroleum products at a residential building in OmFive die in explosion from Rivers Illegal Refineryoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.The Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) confirmed that the explosion occurred in a building where illegally refined petroleum products were being stored. According to reports,Occupants usually buy illegally refined kerosene and other products, store them and resell them to members of the public.The Spokesperson of the agency Dr Fyneface Dumnamene called for a thorough investigation into the incident and warned residents and youths against involvement in pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, artisanal refineries and trading in illegally refined petroleum products, including home storage, to avoid ugly incidents.He also urged the Federal Government to legalise modular refineries in the Niger region to forestall such unfortunate incidents.
