Despite a goalless draw, the Super Falcons secured top spot in Group B and will face Zambia in the quarter-finals on Friday at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Algeria’s Fennecs earned a hard-fought point against Nigeria in their final group-stage match, holding the nine-time champions to a 0-0 draw.
Justine Madugu’s side dominated possession throughout the encounter and finished the group stage with seven points from three games.
Nigeria had several chances to take the lead in the first half, with Ifeoma Onumonu and Jennifer Echegini coming close, but were denied by strong Algerian defending and missed opportunities.
The second half saw limited clear chances for the Super Falcons as they struggled to break down a resolute Algerian backline, ultimately settling for a draw.
With the result, Nigeria tops Group B and will now take on the Copper Queens of Zambia in the quarter-finals.
