NUJ Condemns Threat to Shut Down Badeggi FM

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the Niger State Government’s move to shut down Badeggi FM 90.1 and demolish its premises.

In a statement by NUJ President, Alhassan Abdullahi, the union described the action as an “assault on press freedom” and a misuse of executive power.

Abdullahi stressed that only the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has the legal authority to regulate or sanction broadcast stations in Nigeria, not state governments.

He urged Governor Umaru Bago to withdraw the closure threat and follow due process, warning that such actions threaten democracy and independent journalism.
