NGE raises alarm over Economy, Insecurity, Education, cautions against Media suppression

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has voiced serious concerns over Nigeria’s worsening economy, rising insecurity, and declining education sector, calling for urgent government intervention to prevent a deeper crisis.

Following its Standing Committee meeting in Owerri on August 15, 2025, the Guild decried soaring inflation, unemployment, poverty, and the impact of high exchange rates and fuel costs on citizens.

In a communiqué signed by President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the editors also warned against attempts to suppress press freedom, urging authorities to protect media independence and strengthen social safety measures.
