Authorities in Benin have confirmed that the death toll from the tragic weekend bus accident has risen to 37 after 10 additional bodies were recovered from the Oueme River.
The bus, operated by STM and traveling from Lome, Togo, plunged into the river late Saturday night. Director of Civil Protection, Abdel Aziz Bio Djibril, said rescue efforts are still ongoing, with six passengers unaccounted for.
So far, nine people have survived the crash and are receiving treatment in stable condition.
