Nnamdi Kanu petitions NBA, alleges judicial misconduct of justice

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a petition with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), calling for disciplinary action against Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal over what he described as gross judicial misconduct and miscarriage of justice in his ongoing trial.

In the strongly-worded petition, personally signed by Kanu and shared with Sunday Vanguard through his lawyer, Umesi, the IPOB leader detailed what he claims are serious infractions by the three judges. He urged the NBA, which is currently holding its annual conference in Enugu, to investigate the matter and take necessary actions.

Kanu, who has been in detention at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja since his controversial rendition from Kenya in June 2021, accused the judges of violating legal procedures and applying repealed laws in his case.
He called on the NBA to release a public report condemning the use of civil procedures to undermine criminal law, reject the resurrection of repealed statutes, and demand accountability from judges involved in such practices. According to Kanu, the alleged judicial actions have left a permanent stain on the integrity of Nigeria’s legal system.
