The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over the circulation of counterfeit batches of Postinor-2 (Levonorgestrel 0.75mg), a popular emergency contraceptive pill, in Nigeria.
In a public alert released on Monday, NAFDAC disclosed that the Society for Family Health — the authorised importer — confirmed it did not import the suspect batches. The agency identified key differences between the fake and original products, including spelling errors and font discrepancies on the packaging and pin verification stickers.
The fake version features misspellings like “Veify” instead of “Verify” and “Distnibuted in Nigeria” rather than “Distributed in Nigeria.”
Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and verify authenticity before use. The genuine Postinor-2 bears batch number T32458H, manufactured in February 2023 and expiring in February 2027, with NAFDAC Reg No: 04-6985.
