The Federal Government has launched a Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework, requiring all teachers in public and private schools to undergo ethics screening and criminal background checks before employment.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the initiative during the unveiling of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) digital portal and its new strategic vision.
“No teacher, public or private, will be employed without ethics screening and criminal checks. Private schools must also verify TRCN registration and ethical clearance of their staff,” Alausa said.
The verification system, integrated into the TRCN digital portal, allows real-time registration, licensing, and monitoring, helping prevent impersonation, forgery, and hiring of unqualified teachers.
