The Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, has been sentenced to 56 months in a U.S. federal prison for orchestrating a multimillion-dollar COVID-19 relief fraud.
The 62-year-old dual citizen of Nigeria and the United States was convicted for leading a conspiracy that defrauded the U.S. government of over4.2 million through fraudulent loan applications under the CARES Act from 2020 to 2022.
In addition to his prison term, the monarch will serve three years of supervised release, repay 4.4 million in restitution, and forfeit his Ohio home and nearly100,000 in seized funds.
He and his co-conspirator, Edward Oluwasanmi, had pleaded guilty to wire and tax fraud charges in April.
