NCAA to sanction Qatar airways over alleged mistreatment of Nigerian passenger

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has vowed to impose sanctions on Qatar Airways for alleged mistreatment of a Nigerian passenger.

NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this via his official X handle on Friday, citing a breach of consumer protection rules under Part 19 of the 2023 Regulations.

The incident involved a Nigerian passenger accused of sexual harassment by a cabin crew member during boarding in Lagos. Rather than report the matter locally, the airline flew the passenger to Doha, where he was arrested, detained for 18 hours, fined, and made to sign documents written only in Arabic. His journey was cut short, and he was forced to buy a new ticket at personal and reputational cost.

Achimugu described this as a gross violation and warned that Qatar Airways risks penalties for disregarding NCAA directives. He also cautioned Royal Air Maroc and Saudi Air for similar offences.
