Iran on Thursday expressed support for the newly announced ceasefire agreement between Hamas—its long-time ally—and Israel, a country it considers a major adversary.

In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said:
“Iran has consistently backed any effort aimed at ending the genocidal war, ensuring the withdrawal of occupying forces, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, securing the release of Palestinian prisoners, and advancing the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.”

The announcement comes as celebrations erupted at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv on October 9, 2025, following confirmation that all parties had signed the final draft of the Gaza ceasefire agreement in Egypt.
