Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the payment of ₦2.185 billion in entitlements to former councillors who served across the state between 2004 and 2024.
The approval was announced on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Kebbi State Councillors’ Forum at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi. The governor also directed that part of the funds be disbursed immediately, with full payment to be completed by the end of July.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the development in a statement to journalists.
Chairman of the Councillors’ Forum, Bello Gulumbe, expressed gratitude, noting that previous administrations had failed to fulfill this obligation. He pledged the forum’s full support for the governor’s administration.
Meanwhile, amid rising tensions and online clashes between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Kebbi Elders’ Consultative Forum has urged political actors to maintain decorum.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Acting Chairman Justice Muhammad Ambursa decried the growing trend of personal attacks and verbal abuse. He called on politicians to uphold respect, humility, and integrity, stressing that politics should reflect the moral and religious values of society.
