INEC relocates four voter registration centers in Borno over security concerns.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has relocated four Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centres in Borno State to Maiduguri metropolis due to security and safety concerns.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Borno State, Abubakar Ahmad, made this known on Thursday during a press briefing in Maiduguri to announce the official commencement of the 2025–2026 CVR exercise.

According to Ahmad, the affected local government areas are Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte. The new CVR locations are as follows:

  • Abadam – relocated to Baga Road
  • Guzamala – now at the Fire Service Department, 1,000 Housing Estate
  • Kala-Balge – moved to Goni Kachalari Primary School
  • Marte – relocated to Kachamai

All four new sites are within Maiduguri metropolis.

“For reasons of security and safety, physical registration for these four LGAs will be conducted at designated locations in Maiduguri,” Ahmad stated.

He further explained that the CVR exercise will run for 12 months, divided into three phases, commencing on August 18, 2025, and concluding on August 30, 2026.

  • Phase One begins with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, followed by the start of physical (in-person) registration on August 25, 2025.
  • Both registration options—online and in-person—will continue simultaneously throughout the exercise.
  • Online pre-registration can be accessed via www.cvr.inec.gov.ng and www.cvr.inecnigeria.org.

He noted that online registration allows prospective voters to begin the process digitally and schedule appointments to complete it at INEC state or LGA offices.

Physical registration will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, at all INEC offices nationwide.

The commissioner assured that special arrangements had been made to accommodate persons with disabilities, encouraging their full participation.

The CVR services will cover:

  • Registration of new voters aged 18 and above
  • Replacement of lost, damaged, or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)
  • Transfer of voter details to a new polling unit for those who have relocated
  • Collection of previously uncollected PVCs
  • Updating of registration details for voters whose PVCs failed verification during the last election using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS)

Ahmad urged all eligible Nigerians in the state to take full advantage of the CVR exercise.
