The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months: Alfred Berger, who represents Makurdi North; Terna Shimawua of Kian State Constituency; Cyril Ekong of Obi State Constituency; and James Umoru from Apa State Constituency.
According to the House, the suspension came after an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, on Thursday night.
The Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, raised a motion of urgent importance, accusing the lawmakers of trying to destabilise the Assembly with what he described as an unnecessary crisis.
Following the motion, the Speaker ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the suspended members out of the chambers.
In addition, Speaker Dajoh appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Alfred Berger, who previously held the role.
