A jury in Massachusetts has acquitted Stefon Diggs of assault allegations brought by his former personal chef, bringing an end to a closely watched case involving the ex-New England Patriots star.
Diggs was found not guilty of felony strangulation or suffocation, as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery, following a two-day trial. The jury reportedly deliberated for about 90 minutes before delivering the verdict.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed in December by his personal chef, Jamila Adams, who alleged that a dispute over payment escalated into a physical altercation. She claimed Diggs struck her and attempted to choke her during the incident.
However, Diggs consistently denied the allegations, with his legal team arguing that no assault took place and raising concerns about financial demands made ahead of the trial.
The 32-year-old wide receiver, who pleaded not guilty earlier this year shortly after featuring in the Super Bowl, appeared composed in court as the verdict was announced.
Diggs is currently a free agent after parting ways with the Patriots. He was also previously in a relationship with rapper Cardi B, with whom he shares a child.
