PDP BoT slams expelled members over violent secretariat takeover attempt

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the invasion of the Party’s National Secretariat by expelled members who, on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, stormed the premises with the support of compromised security operatives and armed thugs. The attackers reportedly unleashed violence on party members in an attempt to forcefully seize control of the complex.

The BoT further criticized the actions of the expelled individuals who mobilized thugs to block the duly elected National Working Committee (NWC)—led by the new National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN—from accessing the building. The NWC members were accompanied by the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed; the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as well as other party leaders.

According to the BoT, tear gas was fired at the governors and party leaders while thugs unleashed violence within the Secretariat premises.

The Board expressed deep disappointment at the involvement of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike—also expelled from the party—who reportedly arrived at the Secretariat with heavy security personnel in apparent solidarity with the invaders.

The BoT commended the courage and steadfastness of the governors, NWC members, BoT members, and other leaders, supporters, and loyal party members who stood firm against the attackers.

Reaffirming its support, the BoT declared full endorsement of the newly elected NWC and the outcomes of the Elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15–16 November 2025. The Board emphasized that the Convention was convened in strict compliance with the Party Constitution, internal guidelines, the Electoral Act, and all relevant regulations. It reflects the collective will of delegates and stakeholders across the country.

The BoT strongly condemned the public statements and actions of those lawfully expelled from the party, noting that their efforts to question the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention are baseless, mischievous, and a direct attack on internal democracy.

The Board called on the Inspector-General of Police to thoroughly investigate the attack on the PDP National Secretariat and ensure that all those involved are held accountable. It stressed that democracy flourishes only when institutions remain impartial, professional, and free from partisan interference.

As the moral compass of the party, the BoT reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the unity and democratic principles of the PDP. It urged the newly elected NWC to remain focused on rebuilding and repositioning the party as it prepares for victory in the 2027 general elections.
