The House of Representatives Minority Caucus Ad-hoc Committee on Tax Laws has confirmed that unauthorised changes were made to certain tax reform laws passed by the National Assembly and signed into law by the President.
The committee revealed this in its interim report, stating that discrepancies were found between the versions of the laws approved by lawmakers and those later published in the official government gazette.
The findings followed concerns raised during a plenary session by lawmaker Abdulsamad Dasuki, who alerted the House to the circulation of an “authorised” version of the tax laws that differed from what was duly passed.
In response to public backlash, the minority caucus issued a statement on December 28, 2025, pledging to safeguard the independence of the legislature and protect Nigeria’s democratic process.
The committee noted that the available evidence justified a thorough investigation to ensure accountability, warning that altering duly passed laws constitutes a serious violation of the Constitution and an affront to the authority of the National Assembly.
